The Nugget to host Controversial BLR Event

In the string of controversies surrounding the Beach Legacy Referendum proposal to increase student fees to increase funding in the athletic department, on campus grill and bar The Nugget is finding itself the latest target of anti-BLR groups on campus.

The restaurant has encountered criticism in the form of flyers and boycotts following their scheduling of the BLR organizing committee's after-voting party and concert on Thursday, March 12.

Forty-Niner Shops, Inc. says that their restaurant hosting the event does not make them sponsors of the referendum, and that the party organizers paid to have the event in their facility. They declined to comment on their position on the referendum itself and declared themselves open to reservations from other groups, regardless of their stance, provided it would be a reasonable and peaceful event.
